Baghdad:The Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission announced that Iraq has been internationally recognized for its decontamination efforts, supported by international certificates and resolutions confirming its compliance with obligations.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Majid Shannoun, Head of the Executive Committee for Radiological Decontamination, stated that the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited Iraq to inspect the ongoing decontamination work and commended the efforts.
Dr. Shannoun also mentioned that Iraq received a certificate from the United Nations in The Hague on March 12, 2018, affirming its compliance with obligations related to chemical weapons. He noted that the UN Security Council’s Resolution 1957 confirmed Iraq’s fulfillment of these obligations, emphasizing that the evaluation of Iraq’s work is internationally recognized.
He further stressed the necessity for financial support and collaboration between the government and associated entities to maintain progress in these decontamination activities.
