Baghdad: Iraq has maintained its position as the 76th poorest country globally in 2026, according to recent statistics. The nation’s GDP per capita, based on purchasing power parity (PPP), stood at approximately $15,359.6.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, data from Global Finance magazine revealed that Iraq retained its 76th position from the previous year, 2025. In comparison, South Africa ranked 77th with a GDP per capita of $16,326.29, while Fiji followed in 78th place with $16,430.66.
The purchasing power parity index serves as a tool to compare economic power and living standards across countries. It takes into account differences in price levels and exchange rates, with values expressed in international dollars according to PPP adjustments.
Furthermore, the data indicated that Burundi led the list of the world’s poorest countries, followed by the Central African Republic and South Sudan. Other countries in the top ten include Yemen, Mozambique, Malawi, Somalia, Liberia, Madagascar, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
