Baghdad:National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Aboudi emphasized Iraq’s steadfast position on respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs during a meeting with a United Nations official.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Aboudi met with Mary Yamashita, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2792, discussing ongoing cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations. The focus was on the implementation of Resolution 2792, which is significant for its humanitarian focus.
Al-Aboudi highlighted that Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, in discussions with various international delegations at the UN headquarters in New York, reiterated Iraq’s commitment to fostering balanced relations based on mutual interests. He also underscored Iraq’s efforts towards implementing Resolution 2792, acknowledging its importance in humanitarian contexts.
Yamashita praised Iraq for its dedication to upholding UN Security Council resolutions and its collaboration with the United Nations on humanitarian concerns. Resolution 2792, adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council on September 17, 2025, ensures ongoing follow-up on issues regarding Kuwaiti and third-country prisoners and missing persons, as well as Kuwaiti property, following the end of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq’s mandate.
