Ankara: The Iraqi Embassy in Ankara has received six ancient clay tablets dating back to the Mesopotamian civilization. The handover took place during an official ceremony at the Republic Museum in Ankara, attended by Iraqi Ambassador Majid Al-Lajmawi, Turkish Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism G¶khan Yazici, and other officials and diplomats from both nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ambassador Al-Lajmawi expressed gratitude to the Turkish government for this cultural initiative, highlighting the historical ties between Iraq and Turkey and their commitment to preserving shared cultural heritage. Al-Lajmawi remarked that the tablets are a crucial part of Mesopotamia’s cultural legacy, showcasing Iraq’s significant contributions to human history, especially in writing and governance.

G¶khan Yazici acknowledged the successful cooperation between Turkey and Iraq in the transfer of these artifacts. He reiterated Turkey’s dedication, in line with international laws and agreements, to support Iraq in reclaiming its cultural heritage.
