Amman: Iraq has recorded its first participation in the international Sawa Museum Studies Program since its launch ten years ago, through the participation of Abdulrahman Iyad Hussein, Head of the Database Division at the Iraqi Museum in the Department of Public Museums of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Director General of the Department of Public Museums, Lama Yassin Al-Douri, stated that the programme was organized by the Sharjah Museums Authority in cooperation with the University for Humanities and Social Sciences in Sharjah and the Goethe-Institut in the Gulf region, and in partnership with the Berlin Museums Authority, with the participation of a select group of specialists and professionals working in the museum sector from several countries.

Al-Douri emphasized that this participation represents an important step towards strengthening Iraq’s presence in international museum forums. It opens broad horizons for the exchange of expertise and for gaining in
sight into the latest practices in museum management, collections preservation, and the development of cultural and educational programmes.

She further explained that the participation aligns with the efforts of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage to strengthen international cultural cooperation and develop Iraq’s museum sector. This initiative contributes to safeguarding the country’s heritage and highlighting Iraq’s historical and cultural standing at the global level.
