Ankara: The visit of the Iraqi parliamentary delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and including MP Talal al-Zubaie, to Turkey has resulted in significant strategic outcomes for Iraq, following direct and intensive diplomatic efforts.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement issued by MP al-Zubaie’s media office on Tuesday announced that an official agreement was reached with the Turkish side. With the personal approval of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the agreement stipulates the immediate commencement of water flow to Iraq via the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, starting tomorrow morning.

The statement detailed that the new flow rates will be 320 cubic meters per second for the Tigris River and 450 cubic meters per second for the Euphrates River. This development is being hailed as a crucial achievement that boosts Iraq’s water security and demonstrates the effectiveness of diplomatic efforts aimed at benefiting the Iraqi people, especially as the nation grapples with escalating environmental challenges that necessitate prompt action and balanced international relations.

MP Al-Zubaie’s media office highlighted that the visit exemplifies a successful model of effective parliamentary diplomacy and marks a new phase of constructive cooperation between Baghdad and Ankara.
