Baghdad: Iraq has officially lodged a memorandum of protest with the United Nations regarding Israeli aircraft utilizing its airspace in a recent attack against Iran. The protest highlights Iraq’s stance against what it terms a violation of its sovereignty.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Iraqi government, through its spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi, announced that the memorandum was submitted to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the UN Security Council. The protest condemns what Iraq describes as a “blatant violation” of its airspace and sovereignty by Israel, using Iraqi airspace for an assault on Iran on October 26th. The Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage with the United States on this issue, in line with the bilateral strategic framework agreement, which outlines the U.S. commitment to Iraq’s security and sovereignty.

It emphasized its determination to confront such violations and stated it will prevent the use of its airspace or territory for attacks on other nations, especially those with which it shares respectful relationships and interests. Meanwhile, Al Sabah newspaper reported on the parliamentary session scheduled for today, where Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, emphasized the urgency of resolving contentious articles in the general amnesty law. The session is expected to include voting on several laws, such as the Personal Status Law and the Return of Real Estate to Their Owners Law. Al-Mandalawi led a meeting with the Parliamentary Legal Committee to expedite the resolution of these issues and facilitate the voting process.
