Iraq Unveils Updated Climate Action Plan


Baghdad:The Ministry of Environment has launched Iraq’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) document with the support of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zeidi.



According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office announced that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zeidi assigned Ihsan Yassin al-Awadi, his office director, to attend the launch event. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).



The updated document is part of Iraq’s efforts to strengthen its commitments under the Paris Agreement, focusing on climate action that aligns with the country’s development priorities and the needs of its citizens.



During the event, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office emphasized the importance of addressing the impacts of climate change across different sectors in Iraq. Al-Awadi commended the Ministry of Environment and the UNDP, along with UN agencies and international partners, for their contributions to the preparation of the document.
