Iraq Voices Concerns Over Maritime Security Tensions in the Region

Baghdad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its concern on Sunday regarding the continued tensions and developments affecting maritime security in the region. In a statement, the Ministry said, "We express our concern regarding the continued tensions and developments affecting maritime security in the region, and the potential repercussions that could impact regional security and stability, as well as international trade."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry emphasized, "the importance of adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, respecting the sovereignty of states and good neighborliness, and refraining from any actions that could escalate tensions or compromise the security and safety of maritime navigation." The statement continued, "The Republic of Iraq reiterates the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states and not jeopardizing their security and stability, which contributes to consolidating regional security and strengthening mutual trust among the countries of the region."

The Ministry called for "adopting dialogue and diplomatic means to address disputes, and affirms Iraq's support for all efforts aimed at de-escalation, maintaining the region's security and stability, and safeguarding the common interests of its peoples."
