Baghdad: The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadaoui, announced the launch of the first trial flight of Iraqi Airways between Baghdad and the Omani city of Salalah, marking a preliminary step towards inaugurating a new air route between the two countries.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Saadaoui stated that the trial flight coincides with his participation in the Gulf Green Mobility Forum hosted by Salalah. He highlighted that this development signifies the activation of a new air connection linking Iraq with the Sultanate of Oman.
Al-Saadaoui explained that the flight is a chartered test run, with official operations scheduled to commence on September 6, pending the final approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority. The first phase will include two weekly flights from Baghdad to Muscat, in addition to services from Al-Najaf International Airport to the Omani capital. The second phase will extend flights from Basra International Airport to Muscat.
Al-Saadaoui emphasized that opening this route is part of the Ministry’s plan to expand Iraqi Airways’ network, enhance Iraq’s regional and international connectivity, meet travelers’ needs, and strengthen the country’s presence in the aviation sector.
