Cairo: Iraq’s Ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the Arab League, Qahtan Taha Khalaf, met with the charg© d’affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Cairo, Ambassador Yahya Ahmed Diab, to discuss strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two countries, particularly within the framework of joint Arab action.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Khalaf received Diab at the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo. The meeting addressed bilateral relations and ways to develop cooperation and coordination between Iraq and Syria, as well as an exchange of views on a number of issues of mutual interest.

The meeting also focused on the importance of continuing coordination and exchanging views and positions on regional developments in a manner that contributes to supporting joint Arab action and strengthening the unity of Arab positions on current issues.

In this context, the Iraqi ambassador condemned ‘the repeated attacks carried out by the Israeli entity on Syrian territory,’ reaffirming ‘Iraq’s steadfast position in support of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and the unity of its territory, and its rejection of any violations that undermine its sovereignty or threaten its security and stability.’

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides stressed ‘the importance of continuing consultations and coordination between the two countries’ diplomatic missions in a manner that strengthens bilateral relations and supports the process of joint Arab action.’
