Baghdad: Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi welcomed his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, in Baghdad to discuss the bilateral cooperation in the transportation sector. This meeting marked Al Thani’s first visit to the Iraqi capital since taking office.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Saadawi expressed Iraq’s satisfaction with the growing interest in the Development Road project. He detailed the progress on various stages of the project, including designs and the development of the Grand Faw Port. The discussions also covered the outcomes of meetings held by the coordination and technical committees associated with the project.

Al-Saadawi highlighted the significant attention the project is receiving from the Government of National Services, led by Engineer Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani. He mentioned that the Ministry has made headway with the economic model and governance system and is preparing a draft law to be submitted to the Iraqi Parliament for approval.

The meeting, attended by high-ranking officials from both countries, underscored Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s focus on fostering relations with Qatar and advancing the Development Road Project. During a press conference, Al-Saadawi shared that the meeting covered the economic model, governance, and land acquisition progress, including addressing conflicts and clearing mines.

Al-Saadawi announced a preliminary date for the Quadripartite Ministerial Council meeting, emphasizing the importance of joint cooperation in the transportation sector.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by Iraq. He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to the Development Road Project, as demonstrated by the presence of Qatari leadership in Baghdad. The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations through investment and future projects beneficial to both nations’ peoples.
