Iraqi Citizen Arrested in Germany for Alleged ISIS Membership


Augsburg: The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office has announced the arrest of an Iraqi citizen on charges of belonging to ISIS in the south of the country.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, a spokesperson for the German Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that a suspected ISIS member, identified as Salim A., was apprehended in the city of Augsburg. The arrest took place today, October 28, 2025, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat terrorism within Germany.



The statement further detailed that the detainee, Salim A., is an Iraqi national who allegedly served as an armed fighter in an ISIS unit in Raqqa from at least April 2016 to August 2016. This period marks a significant phase of ISIS activities in the region, raising concerns about the spread of extremism.



Following his arrest, Salim A. was presented before an investigating judge, who subsequently issued a detention order. This legal move underscores the seriousness of the charges and the commitment of German authorities to address security threats linked to terrorism.
