Idlib: An Iraqi citizen was killed on Wednesday in an assassination carried out by two unknown gunmen in Idlib Governorate, Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that the assassination took place in the city of Salqin, northwest of Idlib Governorate. The Iraqi man was shot while walking with his wife in the Al-Jubaila neighborhood of Salqin. The attack resulted in a bullet wound to the head, leaving the victim critically injured.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the injured man was transferred to the hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The motive behind the assassination remains unclear, although the victim is suspected to have previously belonged to a jihadist faction, as noted by the SOHR. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
