Iraqi Condolences to Qatar Amid Tensions Following Missile Attack

Doha: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed his country's sorrow on Sunday over the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, father of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, offering condolences to the Qatari leadership and people.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Araqchi stated in a post on the "X" platform that Iran "received with great sadness and sorrow the news of the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani," emphasizing, "We extend our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the esteemed Al Thani family, and the brotherly State of Qatar."

The Iranian Foreign Minister's condolences came hours after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced a missile attack on Qatar, stating in an official statement that it targeted Al Udeid Air Base, which houses US forces. The developments have raised concerns about escalating tensions in the region.

The Qatari Amiri Diwan had announced the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani due to natural health reasons.
