Iraqi Court Sentences Former ISIS Member to Life Imprisonment


Baghdad: An Iraqi court has sentenced a former ISIS member to life imprisonment for his involvement in terrorist activities, marking a significant legal action against remnants of the terror group in the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the sentencing follows a successful operation by the General Directorate of Security and Discipline within the Popular Mobilization Forces, who apprehended the individual in Basra Governorate. The convict, previously an administrator for ISIS in Anbar Province, also played a significant role in documenting the group’s terrorist operations.

The Popular Mobilization Forces revealed that their directorate’s force conducted the arrest and subsequent investigation, confirming his administrative and media roles within ISIS. The Iraqi judiciary convicted him under Article 4 of the Penal Code, which deals with terrorism-related offenses, thereby sentencing him to life imprisonment.
