Iraqi Delegation Visits Ankara for Pipeline Agreement Discussions

Ankara: A high-level Iraqi delegation has arrived in the Turkish capital to engage in discussions regarding the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline agreement. This visit, which took place over Wednesday and Thursday, featured representatives from Iraq's Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Oil. The primary focus of the discussions was the future of the pipeline agreement and potential joint cooperation efforts in the oil and energy sectors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release detailing the visit's agenda. The Iraqi delegation included directors general from the Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The Turkish delegation was composed of officials and experts from the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

Key figures in the Iraqi delegation were Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Nasir Al-Hindawi, and Ambassador Majid Al-Lajmawi. They held a significant meeting with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, where discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Both parties explored mechanisms to ensure the continued export of oil in a way that benefits both nations.

The statement highlighted that both sides agreed to maintain coordination, along with technical and legal consultations. It is anticipated that the subsequent phase will include the signing of an executive protocol aimed at ensuring the ongoing export of Iraqi oil, including from the Kurdistan Region. This protocol is expected to serve as a transitional step leading to a new agreement, to be finalized within a year of the current agreement's expiration.
