Shalamcheh: Iraqi families stranded at the Shalamcheh border crossing are appealing to the government and relevant authorities for urgent intervention to allow them to return to the country after the crossing was closed today, halting passenger traffic and commercial activity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the families stated that the closure decision has caused them significant hardship, particularly as “among those stranded are sick individuals, the elderly, and children, which has exacerbated their suffering due to the continued closure.” They requested that the relevant authorities exempt them from the closure and facilitate their entry into Iraq.

Security officials announced today the complete closure of the Shalamcheh crossing in Basra and the Shib crossing in Diyala until further notice. The Security Media Cell confirmed that administrative and security arrangements necessitated the closure of some border crossings, clarifying that the Zurbatiyah and Al-Mundhiriya crossings in Diyala remain open to passenger traffic.
