Iraqi Film “Kingdom Of Reeds” Chosen For Oscar Submission


Baghdad: The Iraqi film “Kingdom of the Reeds,” directed by Hassan Hadi, has been selected to compete for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. A special committee in Baghdad made this announcement, highlighting the film’s opportunity to vie for one of the most prestigious international film awards.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the committee revealed that the decision followed a series of professional meetings and deliberations. These discussions involved a meticulous review and study of the films submitted for consideration, adhering to the standards and guidelines set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.



The committee further stated that selecting “Kingdom of the Reeds” underscores the quality of the film and its distinct cinematic vision. The film is seen as a representation of the Iraqi cinematic landscape on the international stage, showcasing Iraq’s cultural and artistic image and affirming its global presence.



The preliminary list of films contending for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film, which includes films produced outside the United States, is anticipated to be announced in December 2025. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 2026.
