Berlin: The Iraqi government is proceeding with strengthening economic openness to Germany and the European Union in general. Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed that the Iraqi government is committed to strengthening economic openness with Germany and the European Union as a whole.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office indicated that al-Zaidi met today, Tuesday, in the German capital, Berlin, with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during his official visit. The meeting reviewed the development of Iraqi-German relations and joint efforts to enhance bilateral economic partnership and support the expansion of opportunities for German companies to participate in ongoing development projects in Iraq.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Iraqi government is committed to strengthening economic openness with Germany and the European Union as a whole, in light of the drive to increase crude oil production and exports, raise electricity generation levels, and accelerate Iraq’s transformation into an effective economic corridor between Asian and European markets through the Development Corridor project.

Al-Zaidi also reiterated Iraq’s determination and dedication to supporting regional stability and reducing regional tensions, in order to create more opportunities for regional and international economic partnerships and integration in development projects that benefit the Iraqi people and friendly nations, including the German people.
