Stockholm: Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari engaged in discussions with Dag Hartelius, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in Stockholm concerning the reestablishment of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad and the enhancement of bilateral relations between Iraq and Sweden.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting primarily focused on fortifying joint cooperation in the security, diplomatic, and humanitarian sectors. Both parties expressed intentions to develop relations that would benefit mutual interests. Al-Shammari emphasized Iraq’s commitment to establishing balanced partnerships grounded in mutual respect and shared interests, highlighting the necessity of activating communication channels between Baghdad and Stockholm. This would aid in coordinating efforts on issues such as migration, expertise exchange, and support for training and development programs.

Al-Shammari also advocated for the reopening of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, suggesting that this move would enhance bilateral relations, ease the provision of consular services for Swedish and Iraqi citizens, and bolster security and economic cooperation between the two nations.

Dag Hartelius commended Iraq’s significant role in fostering regional stability and expressed Sweden’s eagerness to broaden cooperation with Baghdad. He confirmed Sweden’s willingness to strengthen partnerships between the official institutions of both countries.
