Baghdad: The Head of the Border Ports Authority, Omar Al-Waeli, embarked on an official visit to Iran's Ilam Province with a delegation that included Maysan Governor Habib Al-Fartousi and Lt. Gen. Haqi Al-Sharifi, Director General of Travel and Border Affairs in the Intelligence Service. The visit was marked by the presence of Ilam's Governor, Iran's Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Al-Sadiq, and several technical experts from both nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a meeting took place in Dehloran District, Ilam Province, where discussions focused on establishing a new border crossing between Ali Al-Gharbi in Iraq and Jalath in Iran. The two countries agreed to form a joint committee of specialists to initiate the necessary legal procedures for the project. Coordination will be managed through diplomatic channels represented by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both Iraq and Iran.

The delegations also conducted a site visit to Jalath, assessing the terrain and proposed location for the new border crossing, as well as the access roads connecting Maysan Province to Iran.

Additionally, another government delegation led by Al-Waeli, which included key figures such as the Chairman of the Basra Provincial Council and the Director General of Customs, visited Khuzestan Province's Arvand Free Zone. This visit, responding to an Iranian invitation, aimed to explore opportunities for enhancing economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The meetings culminated in the signing of significant memoranda detailing procedures and mechanisms designed to foster successful trade development, aligning with World Trade Organization standards.
