Karbala: The activities of the Iraqi-Iranian Science Week were launched in the holy city of Karbala, featuring the participation of more than a hundred universities from Iraq and Iran. The event marks the second edition of the Science Week, aiming to foster collaboration between the academic institutions of the two nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, emphasized in his opening speech the importance of advancing to the implementation stage of the Science Week. The event focuses on the exchange of scientists, professors, and researchers, the execution of research and technological projects, cultural exchange, scholarships, and the organization of specialized workshops. Furthermore, it aims to stimulate technical and professional cooperation and establish joint fellowships for science and technology.

Dr. Al-Aboudi highlighted the achievements of the Iraqi government and its development institutions in education internationalization and sustainable development. He noted that Iraq’s focus on scientific research has led to positive indicators in global publishing and significant international recognition. The quality education path in Iraqi university institutions has ensured progress toward international accreditation, elevating the scientific credibility of academic programs and certificates.

Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Hossein Simai Saraf, expressed gratitude for the organization of the Joint Science Week. He underscored the importance of strengthening scientific cooperation between the universities of Iraq and Iran to enhance their global rankings.

During the event, both countries signed an executive program aimed at enhancing joint cooperation. Key areas of focus include the scholarship program for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, organizing training workshops, promoting joint scientific supervision, and facilitating the exchange of university professors for collaborative research and lectures. Additionally, there are plans to establish a joint scientific park in Iraq under the management of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The opening ceremony featured official speeches, scientific presentations, and the honoring of several notable figures, marking a significant step towards enhanced academic collaboration between Iraq and Iran.
