Baghdad: The Iraqi Lawyers Union engaged in discussions with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to address mechanisms for supporting transparency in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for October. The focus was on the involvement of civil society organizations and professional unions in overseeing the electoral process to ensure its integrity and efficiency, thereby enhancing transparency and supporting Iraq’s democratic path.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions occurred during a visit by IHEC Board Member Ahlam Al-Jabri to the Union’s headquarters. She was welcomed by the Union’s President, Qasim Tu’ma Joudah. Al-Jabri emphasized the Commission’s commitment to fostering cooperation with the Iraqi Lawyers Union to ensure a fair and transparent electoral environment that accurately reflects the will of the Iraqi people.
