Baghdad: The Iraqi Meteorological Authority issued a warning to citizens today, Sunday, about ultraviolet rays, calling on them to avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially during peak hours.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the authority emphasized the “need to take the necessary preventive measures during the afternoon and avoid direct exposure to the sun for long periods.” The statement highlights the potential health risks associated with prolonged sun exposure, particularly during times when UV levels are at their highest.

The authority elaborated that “the Climate and Scientific Research Center, in cooperation with the Meteorological Observation Department of the General Authority of Meteorology and Seismology, has issued updated maps showing increased values of incoming solar radiation and the ultraviolet (UV) index across the country.” This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to monitor and analyze weather changes that have significant implications for health and the environment.

It added that “these indicators are essential factors in monitoring the level of sunlight’s impact during daytime hours, especially during peak hours, when the UV index rises to levels that may be harmful with direct and prolonged exposure.” This serves as a crucial reminder for citizens to remain cautious and take protective measures against potential UV-related health issues.
