Baghdad: The Minister of Environment stressed the importance of completing the implementation paths of the Sustainable Land Management and Green Climate Fund projects. Iraqi Minister of Environment, Sarwa Abdul Wahid, directed the ministry team and representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to expedite the implementation procedures for the Sustainable Land Management (GEF) and Green Climate Fund (GCF) projects. This directive aligns with the ministry’s efforts to enhance the sustainable management of natural resources, support environmental priorities, and adapt to climate change in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting reviewed progress on the Sustainable Land Management project, particularly regarding the implementation of its strategy and the ongoing supply and delivery of soil and water measurement equipment and tablets to support field activities. These devices will contribute to improving environmental monitoring and enhancing the efficiency of field follow-up.

The meeting also discussed updates on the Green Climate Fund project, reviewing in-kind contribution procedures and mechanisms for fulfilling technical and administrative requirements. This aims to strengthen coordination among relevant stakeholders and support the timely implementation of both projects, in accordance with Iraq’s environmental and climate commitments.
