Basra: The Iraqi National Security Service successfully dismantled a network involved in prostitution, extortion, and drug trafficking in Basra Governorate. The operation led to the arrest of four individuals, three of whom are women, engaged in criminal activities centered around blackmail and drug abuse.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the National Security Service in Basra received confirmed intelligence information about the presence of a criminal network operating out of a central city house. The statement from the Service highlighted, “In continuation of the role of the National Security Service in pursuing organized crime gangs, confirmed intelligence information was received by the Service’s detachments in Basra Governorate about the existence of a network practicing (prostitution, extortion and drug trafficking) in one of the houses in the city center.”

The Service elaborated on the steps taken to apprehend the suspects, stating, “After collecting evidence, determining the exact location o
f the network, and obtaining judicial approvals, the Service was able to arrest (4) members of the network (a man and three women).” The arrested individuals reportedly confessed to luring citizens into a house, where they were tricked into consuming drugs and engaging in prostitution. They were then filmed and blackmailed for money.

This crackdown forms part of a larger effort by the Iraqi authorities to combat organized crime and ensure safety and security in the region.
