Baghdad: The Iraqi national football team arrived in Basra on Saturday evening as they gear up for their upcoming match against Kuwait scheduled for next Thursday. This match is part of their preparations before heading to Amman, Jordan, to face Palestine in the eighth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the delegation is accompanied by Adnan Dirjal, the President of the Iraqi Football Association, and Ahmed Al-Moussawi, a member of the association’s executive office. The team is set to begin their training sessions on Sunday with an evening session at the Sports City’s training centers.
In addition, players Kamil Saad, Ali Jassim, Al-Ay Fadel, Lucas Shlimon, Amir Al-Ammari, Marco Faraj, and Youssef Amin are expected to arrive tomorrow to join the team’s residence in the sports city. They will begin training alongside their teammates Jalal Hassan, Ahmed Basil, Ali Kazim, Amjad Atwan, Muhannad Ali, Ali Youssef, and Manaf Younis, marking the start of
their preparations for the upcoming matches.
