Iraqi Parliament Denounces Attacks on Sovereignty and Security

Baghdad: The Iraqi Parliament has condemned recent attacks that targeted the nation's sovereignty, security, and military sites. During its eleventh session, which took place on Saturday evening with the participation of several security leaders, the Parliament firmly rejected the exploitation of Iraqi territory or airspace for conducting hostile actions against neighboring countries. It emphasized that Iraq will not be drawn into regional conflicts.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Parliament expressed its complete support for state institutions, particularly the military and security forces, urging them to take necessary measures to protect borders, safeguard national sovereignty, preserve the country's interests and institutions, and ensure the safety of diplomatic missions operating within Iraq. The legislative body also appealed to the UN Security Council and international and regional organizations to take immediate steps to halt the attacks and uphold respect for international laws, treaties, and conventions.

The Parliament stressed the importance of political forces fulfilling their responsibilities to complete constitutional requirements, notably the election of the President of the Republic and the formation of a national unity government. It urged the government to implement measures to protect the country's sovereignty and security. Additionally, it reiterated its commitment to the constitution and prohibited any entity from using Iraqi land, waters, or airspace as a base for actions targeting neighboring countries. The Parliament also tasked the Iraqi Media and Communications Commission with taking legal measures to block platforms and websites that spread rumors or incite sedition, posing threats to national security.

In response to the situation, the Council decided to establish a parliamentary committee to investigate violations of national sovereignty and attacks on the capabilities of the security forces. It emphasized the importance of fostering national unity and solidarity among Iraq's political and social components. The Council of Representatives expressed its support for the statement issued by the State Administration Coalition following its meeting held on March 7, 2026.
