Baghdad: The Iraqi Parliament adjourned its session today, Monday, until next Wednesday, following the completion of the first reading of several critical draft laws, including the draft law on Iraq’s accession to the Framework Agreement for the Establishment of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) of 2016.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Parliament’s Media Office released a statement indicating that the assembly paused its deliberations after also completing the first reading of the draft law amending the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. (50) of 2017. The statement detailed that this was part of a series of legislative readings conducted during the session.

Additionally, the Parliament completed the first reading of the draft Arbitration Law, alongside the reading of the draft law on Iraq’s accession to the Framework Agreement for the Establishment of the ISA. The day’s agenda also included the first reading of the draft law ratifying the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation. The session concluded with the first reading of the draft law amending the Industrial Investment Law for the Private and Mixed Sectors No. (20) of 1998.

The legislative body is set to reconvene next Wednesday to continue its discussions and progress on these significant legislative proposals.
