Baghdad: The Parliamentary Finance Committee of Iraq recently hosted Ambassador Clemens Simetner, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Iraq, to discuss strategies for strengthening economic cooperation and leveraging European expertise in reform and anti-corruption efforts. The meeting aimed at exploring EU programs and projects in Iraq and enhancing cooperation between the Iraqi Council of Representatives' Finance Committee and the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions focused on expanding economic and investment cooperation, examining European methods for combating corruption, and the potential exchange of expertise, especially concerning economic reform and legislation designed to maximize state resources and improve financial management efficiency. The meeting also highlighted the significance of supporting green economy initiatives and environmental transitions by investing in solar energy and waste recycling projects, which could diversify Iraq's income sources and reduce its reliance on oil revenues.
Both parties emphasized the necessity of ongoing coordination and collaboration to develop financial and economic policies that can bolster financial stability, support the implementation of economic reform programs, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
