Iraqi Ports Company Engages with German Firms on Strategic Development Projects

Baghdad: The Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, took part in a panel session to deliberate on Iraq’s Development Road Project and the Grand Faw Port. This session was part of the Business Forum Conference organized by the German Liaison Office for Industry and Commerce in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conference, hosted in Baghdad, saw participation from key figures including the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Transport Affairs, Dr. Nasser Al-Asadi, and Hudhaifa Boudal, the Head of the Economic Transformation Enhancement Project at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Iraq. Representatives from Oliver Wyman management consulting and several prominent German companies in the industrial and commercial sectors were also in attendance.

Al-Fartousi emphasized that both the Development Road Project and the Grand Faw Port are pivotal in reshaping Iraq’s transport and trade framework. These projects aim to connect Iraqi ports to land and rail corridors leading to European markets.

He further highlighted the significance of the Grand Faw Port, describing it as the foundation of this strategic initiative. The port is designed to offer modern infrastructure that can attract international investments and bolster partnerships with global companies, particularly those from Germany, in transport and logistics services.

The statement from the company’s media department indicated that discussions focused on integrating the Development Road Project with the Grand Faw Port. These projects are expected to play a crucial role in supporting economic transformation and enhancing international partnerships, especially with German industrial and commercial sectors, as part of Iraq’s logistics infrastructure development strategy.
