Basra: The Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Engineer Farhan Al-Fartousi, engaged in discussions with Gerardine Delannoy, a representative from the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), about enhancing technical and institutional cooperation. The meeting took place at the company’s headquarters, focusing on advancing the navigational infrastructure at Iraqi ports.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Fartousi emphasized that the partnership with IALA is crucial for the development of Iraq’s port systems. He highlighted plans for expanding specialized training and qualification programs, enhancing the exchange of technical expertise, and ensuring that national systems meet internationally approved standards. These efforts aim to modernize marine aids to navigation systems, improve workforce efficiency, and adopt advanced technological solutions.
Al-Fartousi reiterated the commitment of Iraqi ports to align with maritime safety and environmental protection requirements. This initiative is expected to bolster maritime trade and fortify Iraq’s standing on the regional and international maritime transport map.
