Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has announced the new National Security Strategy, describing it as the fundamental document for strengthening and activating the management system of Iraq’s supreme national interests. In his speech marking the launch, al-Sudani emphasized the strategy’s role in securing the nation’s interests and enhancing its regional and international relations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the strategy, termed the ‘Iraq First’ strategy, spans the years 2025 to 2030 and is part of a broader national program aimed at serving citizens while bolstering security, stability, sovereignty, and prosperity. Al-Sudani highlighted the collaborative national efforts behind the strategy’s development, acknowledging the contributions of the European Union Advisory Mission and other international organizations.

Al-Sudani called for earnest efforts and genuine support to implement the strategy’s components and achieve its objectives. He noted that the strategy would facilitate the development of Iraq’s security and defense system, foster a robust and diverse economy, and establish balanced and effective regional and international partnerships.

Furthermore, al-Sudani pointed out that the implementation of the National Security Strategy would enhance community security, protect diversity, promote peaceful coexistence, and establish an efficient service system that caters to the people’s needs. He stressed the collective responsibility in building the nation, serving the populace, developing institutions, and safeguarding cultural heritage and sanctities.

Concluding his remarks, al-Sudani articulated the national vision encapsulated in the strategy: “a secure, federal, and sovereign Iraq, where justice and equality of citizenship prevail to achieve stability and development.”
