Iraqi Provinces Suspend Activities in Mourning for Ayatollah Khamenei


Baghdad: Several Iraqi provinces have declared official mourning and suspended work today following the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the US airstrikes and Israeli raids that targeted Tehran.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Dhi Qar Provincial Council announced three days of official mourning and the suspension of work throughout the province, paying tribute to the late leader. Similarly, the head of the Babylon Provincial Council, Asaad al-Muslawi, confirmed that today has been declared an official holiday to commemorate Imam Khamenei’s martyrdom.



Al-Muslawi emphasized that the suspension of work in Babylon excludes security and service departments, ensuring essential services remain operational. In addition, the Najaf Provincial Council has announced a suspension of official work and three days of mourning in honor of the Supreme Leader.



Furthermore, the Diwaniyah Provincial Council declared a three-day public mourning period and suspended official working hours today, March 1, 2026, to honor the memory of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
