Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed with his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Iraqi-Gulf relations and developments in the region. The Media Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that ‘Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call today, Sunday, from UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to further develop them and strengthen joint cooperation.’

According to Iraqi News Agency, the two sides discussed during the call the latest developments in the region’s security situation, as well as developments on the Yemeni scene. They also discussed Iraqi-Gulf relations and stressed the importance of strengthening them and maintaining their solidity in a manner that contributes to supporting regional security and stability.

The statement noted that ‘Fuad Hussein reviewed the policy of the Iraqi government, headed by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, toward issues related to regional security, stressing Iraq’s keenness to support stability and prioritize dialogue.’

According to the statement, the two sides stressed the need to avoid escalation and work to address problems and settle disputes through peaceful means, negotiations and dialogue, in a way that enhances security and stability in the region.
