Ankara: Iraq’s Ambassador to Ankara, Majid Al-Lajmawi, engaged in discussions with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Ayse Birs Ekinci to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, while also addressing the latest political and security developments in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Iraqi Embassy in Turkey released a statement highlighting that both sides reaffirmed the importance of advancing Iraqi-Turkish relations and deepening their partnership across various fields. This collaboration aims to bolster regional stability and serve the mutual interests of both nations.

The meeting also delved into key developments in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the recent military escalation between Iran and Israel. Ambassador Lajmawi outlined Iraq’s stance against escalation and support for reducing tensions. He welcomed the US-brokered ceasefire agreement, viewing it as a hopeful step toward peace and a demonstration of dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts.

In a related context, both parties reiterated their countries’ unwavering positions on the situation in the Gaza Strip, expressing full support for a ceasefire and an end to the Palestinians’ suffering. They underscored the need to activate regional and international roles to promote peaceful resolutions.

Ekinci conveyed her satisfaction with the positive developments in Iraq, commending the political, security, and economic advancements she observed during her recent visits. On the water issue, Ekinci noted that Turkey is experiencing a significant decline in water levels, affecting water quotas in countries like Bulgaria. She emphasized that the water crisis is a shared regional challenge, not unique to Iraq.

Ekinci expressed Turkey’s readiness to collaborate with Iraq on water management through coordination with relevant authorities in both nations, aiming to devise sustainable solutions that uphold rights and address climate challenges.
