Iraq’s Holdings Of US Treasury Bonds Increased By More Than $1 Billion

Washington: The US Treasury Department announced on Monday that Iraq increased its holdings of US Treasury securities by more than $1 billion, reaching approximately $40.8 billion in December 2025.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iraq's holdings of US Treasury securities rose by $1.1 billion in December 2025, reaching $40.8 billion, up from $39.7 billion in the preceding month.

The Treasury added that these holdings increased by 74% compared to January 2025, when Iraq's holdings stood at $23.4 billion.

Among Arab countries, Saudi Arabia topped the list of holders of US Treasury securities with $148.8 billion, followed by the UAE and then Kuwait in third place.

The data indicated that the largest holders of US Treasury securities are Japan, with $1.202 trillion, followed by the United Kingdom, then China, and then Belgium.

Total holdings of US Treasury securities by countries in December 2025 amounted to approximately $9.3554 trillion, an increase of $736.1 billion from the same month in 2024, when they stood at $8.6193 trillion.
