Baghdad: The Supreme Judicial Council has issued a stern warning to candidates participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections, cautioning them against the use of offensive or inciting rhetoric during their campaigns. The Council underscored that such conduct is a violation of existing laws and could lead to legal consequences for the offenders.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council released a statement highlighting its concern over the behavior of some candidates as the election date draws near. It noted that certain candidates have been involved in campaign activities where they have resorted to language that incites division among citizens or directs insults at their opponents, outside the normal bounds of electoral competition, regardless of intent.

The statement from the Council clearly stated that these practices are in direct conflict with the constitution, laws, and current regulations. It warned that continued violations could lead to the disqualification of offending candidates from the election process.

The Council made a call to all candidates, including individuals and political parties, to maintain a responsible tone in their electoral discourse. It also mentioned that relevant authorities will be vigilant in monitoring such behaviors and are prepared to take legal action against those who violate the guidelines.
