Riyadh: The Chairman of Iraq’s Media and Communications Commission, Noufel Abu-Ragheef, met with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan on the sidelines of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-25), held in Riyadh. Bogdan praised the strong relations between Iraq and the ITU, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the Commission across various telecommunications and technology sectors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Abu-Ragheef presented a comprehensive overview of the Commission’s mandate and organizational structure, highlighting its legal independence and pivotal role in driving digital transformation. He also reviewed key achievements in automation, infrastructure development, and efforts to strengthen the concept of digital sovereignty.

Abu-Ragheef underscored the importance of partnership with the ITU in drafting legislation, exchanging expertise, and developing regulatory frameworks, stressing the value of leveraging international experience in this vital sector.

He concluded by emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to broadening cooperation with the ITU, particularly in capacity building and professional development, in order to enhance Iraq’s regional and international standing and keep pace with the rapid global advancements in telecommunications and information technology.
