Iraq’s Oil Ministry Plans to Resume Huwaiza Oil Field Development

Maysan:The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Nasir Aziz Jabbar, led discussions on Tuesday regarding the resumption of development and production operations at the Huwaiza oil field in Maysan province.

According to the Iraqi News Agency, Jabbar chaired an extensive meeting focusing on strategies to restart field operations, initiate the drilling of exploratory wells, and evaluate the contracted area. The discussions aimed to establish mutual agreements that uphold the rights of both Maysan Oil Company and China’s Geo-Jade, following a revision of overlapping boundaries.

Jabbar emphasized the importance of expanding operations at the Huwaiza oil field to boost reserves and production capacity while ensuring the protection of World Heritage sites and biodiversity. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to fast-tracking exploration and development programs and creating a conducive environment for operations to resume, aligning with technical and environmental standards.

The meeting included the participation of Fan Jianbing, executive director of China’s Geo-Jade, and his team, alongside officials from various departments, including the Reservoirs and Field Development Department and the Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Department. Representatives from the Oil Exploration Company, Maysan Oil Company, and the operator of the Huwaiza oil field were also in attendance.
