New york city: Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has claimed that Israel is attempting to achieve previously unmet objectives by instigating political unrest and chaos within Iran. Iravani made these remarks during a UN Security Council meeting focused on the “Situation in the Middle East and Palestine.”
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani stated that the Israeli regime failed to accomplish its goals during a 12-day conflict with Iran in June 2025. Consequently, Israel is reportedly pursuing these objectives through political destabilization and spreading internal unrest within Iran. He accused Israel and the United States of backing armed terrorist groups responsible for the deaths of innocent Iranian civilians and numerous security forces during a brief period in January.
During the UN Security Council meeting, Iravani also highlighted Iran’s support for initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. He emphasized the need for a permanent ceasefire, withdrawal of occupying forces, and unrestricted humanitarian aid access to restore the rights of the Palestinian people.
In his speech, Iravani criticized Israel for violating an October 2025 ceasefire in Gaza and imposing severe restrictions on humanitarian access. He accused Israel of targeting international humanitarian organizations and expanding illegal settlements, actions in violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.
Iravani underscored Iran’s commitment to supporting credible initiatives to end Palestinian suffering and criticized current mechanisms that undermine Palestinian self-determination. He concluded by rejecting allegations made by the Israeli representative at the meeting, describing them as attempts to distract from Israel’s actions in Gaza and the region.
