Ankara: US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack revealed on Friday that Israel and Syria had reached a ceasefire agreement with the mediation and support of Turkey, Jordan, and other neighboring countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barrack made a call on the X platform for all Syrian sects, including Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis, to lay down their arms and participate in “building a new, unified Syrian identity in cooperation with other minorities.”

Violent clashes had erupted in the southern province of Sweida on July 13, continuing for several days between local militants and pro-government Bedouin tribes. These clashes resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and soldiers, which was followed by a military campaign by Syrian government forces to seize control of the city.

In response to the escalating violence, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached in Sweida. The agreement includes 14 points, the most notable being the cessation of military operations and the formation of a joint committee from the state and Druze sheikhs to oversee the implementation of the agreement.
