Jerusalem: Israel has decided to immediately resume the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Political and Security Council made this decision on Sunday evening, with plans to transfer aid through several international organizations until a new aid mechanism becomes operational on May 24.

Axios reported that the humanitarian aid will be delivered through existing channels, including the World Food Program, World Kitchen, and other relief organizations. The aid is expected to consist of medicines for hospitals and food supplies such as flour for bakeries operated by these international entities.

Yedioth Ahronoth highlighted that ministers involved in the discussions believe the decision was influenced by pressure from the United States. Despite some opposition, the Broadcasting Authority noted that the decision was passed without a vote, overriding objections from Finance Minister Smotrich and other ministers.

Israel’s Channel 14 reported that the decision led to a heated debate during a cabinet meeting, with National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir opposing the move. Ben-Gvir criticized the prime minister’s decision, stating it was a grave mistake to allow aid into Gaza. His request to hold a vote on the matter was reportedly rejected, as per Israeli Army Radio.
