Sweida: Syrian media reported early Wednesday morning that the Israeli Air Force conducted renewed airstrikes on Sweida Governorate in southern Syria. The attacks targeted areas such as Al-Shaqrawiya in the Sweida countryside and the vicinity of Al-Tha’la Military Airport, resulting in the deaths of several individuals, including at least one Syrian army member, while others sustained injuries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Axios news website revealed that the U.S. administration under President Donald Trump had requested Israel to cease its attacks on Syrian army forces in the south of the country. A U.S. official noted that Israel had agreed to stop these attacks as of Tuesday evening.

The airstrikes came shortly after the Syrian army’s entry into Sweida, following orders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. They directed the military to target government forces and weaponry introduced into Sweida, highlighting Israel’s commitment to safeguarding the Druze community in the region.

The ongoing tensions in Sweida have led to a rising death toll, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting 203 fatalities since the onset of clashes between Druze factions and tribal gunmen last Sunday. These conflicts prompted the Syrian government’s deployment of forces to the area.

On Tuesday, Syrian Defense Minister Major General Marhaf Abu Qasra announced a complete ceasefire in Sweida. The province has been embroiled in tensions, exacerbated by deadly confrontations between local tribes and factions over mutual kidnappings, resulting in approximately 30 deaths and 100 injuries, including women and children. This situation led to the Syrian army’s intervention to quell the violence.

Moreover, on Monday, an outlaw group attacked the Syrian army on the outskirts of Sweida, resulting in the deaths of 18 soldiers and injuries to others. Some of the attackers were arrested and taken to an undisclosed location.
