TEL AVIV: The Israeli army has officially confirmed for the first time a covert operation conducted in Masyaf, Syria, on September 8, 2024. The operation involved the landing of over 100 fighters from the elite “Shaldag” unit, who targeted and destroyed an underground facility reportedly dedicated to the production of precision missiles.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Israeli military disclosed that the special operation, conducted by the Air Force, aimed to dismantle a site in the Masyaf area known for producing advanced weaponry. The site was reportedly constructed with support and funding from Iran and served as a significant asset in Iran’s efforts to supply arms to Hezbollah and other allied groups near Israel’s northern border.

The military statement detailed the involvement of continuous intelligence efforts by the Israeli Intelligence Service, which tracked and analyzed the target. This intelligence gathering enabled the development of a comprehensive plan to neutralize the facility via air power. The operation included forces landing in the area with the support of military helicopters, drones, warplanes, and naval assets providing fire cover.

The targeted complex was described as containing advanced production facilities for manufacturing precision missiles and long-range rockets. These were intended to bolster the capabilities of Iran’s regional allies. During the operation, Israeli forces reportedly seized essential missile production equipment and critical intelligence documents before demolishing the facility.

The announcement marks a rare public acknowledgment of such an operation by the Israeli military, highlighting the ongoing regional tensions and the strategic significance of disrupting missile production capabilities within Syrian territory.
