Israeli Army Reports Deaths of Major and Soldier in Southern Gaza Attack

Rafah: The Israeli army announced on Sunday evening the death of a major and a soldier in an attack that targeted its forces in the city of Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip. The attack occurred earlier in the day, marking a significant event amid ongoing tensions in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the army released a statement confirming the identities of the two Israeli army personnel who were killed. The deceased have been identified as Major Yaniv Kula, 26, a battalion commander in the 932nd Battalion, Nahal Brigade, and Sergeant Itai Yafetz, 21, a fighter in the Araz program within the same battalion. Both individuals hailed from Modi’in-Maccabim-Reut.

These developments coincide with the tenth day of a ceasefire agreement, which was established more than two years after the last Israeli war on Gaza. The Israeli government accuses Hamas of breaching the ceasefire by “targeting military vehicles.” Conversely, Hamas maintains its adherence to the truce and accuses the Israeli army of “fabricating pretexts to justify its continued crimes.”

The atmosphere in the Gaza Strip remains tense, with concerns over the potential collapse of the fragile truce and the resumption of military operations. In a related incident, Israeli aircraft conducted a series of air raids on the cities of Rafah and Jabalia, allegedly in response to the reported ceasefire violations. These airstrikes resulted in casualties among civilians.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported that the death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has reached 68,159, with 170,203 individuals wounded since October 7, 2023.
