Doha: The recent Israeli attack targeting a residential compound housing several Hamas leaders in Doha has been condemned as a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter. This act not only threatens regional security and stability but also targets a sovereign state that has played a significant role in mediation efforts to end the Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the attack signifies a dangerous escalation in Israel’s aggressive approach, challenging international will and violating principles governing international relations. This has led to widespread condemnation from world capitals and international organizations, who have expressed unwavering support for Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The upcoming emergency Arab-Islamic summit aims to bolster Doha’s mediation efforts, protect Palestinians, and deliver a strong message to the international community on the need to confront the actions of the Israeli government. Since the founding of the Arab League in 1945, 50 Arab summits have been held, with Doha hosting three, reflecting the priority given to the Palestinian cause.
Historically, emergency Arab summits have underscored Arab solidarity with the Palestinian cause. The first was held in Inshas in 1946, affirming support for Palestinian rights. Subsequent summits have addressed various regional crises, including the Suez Crisis, Algerian independence, and the Palestinian Intifada.
In recent years, summits have repeatedly condemned Israeli aggression, such as the “Gaza Summit” in Doha in 2009 and the joint Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh in 2023. These gatherings have consistently called for the end of Israeli hostilities and support for Palestinian statehood and sovereignty.
The upcoming summit comes at a critical time as Israel expands its aggression to include Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Qatar. This situation necessitates unified efforts to confront Israeli actions and ensure the protection of regional peace and security.
