BEIRUT: In a significant escalation of hostilities, local Lebanese security sources have reported that the Israeli army has nearly obliterated several villages in southern Lebanon, with both homes and mosques reportedly razed to the ground. The actions are said to have taken place in the border region, where tensions have been mounting. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Lebanese security circles have indicated that the town of Ramyeh, near Bint Jbeil in the border area, is among the locations that have been targeted. However, there has been no official confirmation of these claims from the Israeli military or other official bodies. The situation has further intensified following observations by soldiers from the United Nations mission, who reportedly witnessed several Israeli units crossing the border demarcation line into Lebanon about a week ago. A photograph circulating on social media also appears to show Israeli soldiers standing in front of a building in the aforementioned village. Further comp licating the situation, UNIFIL forces have previously announced that the Israeli army demolished the main gate of one of its sites in Ramyeh. Additionally, Israeli soldiers reportedly halted a logistical operation by UNIFIL near the town of Mays al-Jabal. These developments come amid a broader conflict that began on September 23, with Israel launching an unprecedentedly intense air campaign targeting various locations, including Beirut, the Lebanese capital. The airstrikes have been accompanied by a ground incursion in the south of Lebanon, while Hezbollah fighters have continued to launch rockets into Israeli territory.
