Rome: Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated that Italy “will not go to war with Iran,” regardless of any decision made by US President Donald Trump.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the minister’s comments were made during a television interview when asked about potential changes for Italy should the United States join Israel in a conflict against Iran. Crosetto, a prominent figure in Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s party, emphasized that Italy is not contemplating any military action against Iran, and he does not foresee Italian soldiers or aircraft being involved in such an operation.

The minister highlighted that Italy’s stance is not only constitutionally mandated but also reflects the absence of any intention to engage militarily with Iran. He underscored that this position should be clear and evident.

Addressing the potential use of American air bases located in Italy, the Defense Minister mentioned that their utilization is governed by longstanding agreements from 1950, 1952, and 1995. These agreements require that the purpose of using the bases be clarified and permission obtained from the Italian government. Crosetto confirmed that no such request for permission has been made.
